What We Do

ESHP provides valuable information about the history of the Everglades region and is often invited to give presentations throughout the county and state. The Society also hosts informative talks, films, and tours for its members and the public in the local area. Furthermore, ESHP organizes fundraising activities to support its mission and participates in local events.

Historic Preservation

Renovation, Education, and Restoration

Currently, our primary activities include the renovation of the Bank of Everglades Building, the operation of the Everglades Area Visitor Center, and the maintenance of a historical library with books and artifacts, as well as an ongoing effort to preserve historic sites and structures in our area.

Several of our Board members were the founders of ESHP in 2004 and have wide-ranging knowledge of our history and culture. The experience of our Board is extensive and diversified. ESHP is a tremendous resource for those who wish to learn more about our past and our vision for the future.

Visitor Center

Everglades Area Visitor Center is currently housed in the Glades Building, across the street from the old Bank of Everglades, which ESHP is currently renovating. When the renovation is complete, the Visitor Center will move to the Bank of Everglades building. Acting as the welcome center for visitors to the area, many brochures from local businesses and information about destinations as well as maps are provided. Local art and crafts are displayed and for sale as well as ESHP merchandise.
